Light Demolition in Cleveland & Northeast Ohio

Decks, fences, above-ground pools, gazebos, pergolas, and detached garages — torn down, cut up, hauled away, and the site swept. Small decks start at $499 all-in and fence runs at $399. Serving homeowners across Cuyahoga, Summit, Lorain, Medina, Lake, Geauga, Portage, and Stark counties.

The quoted demolition scope includes loading, disposal, and cleanup. Height, structural connections, and tight backyard access need a project-specific assessment. CLE's business-wide rating is 5.0 stars across 97+ Google reviews.

Some projects may require a qualified subcontractor. Project acceptance and scheduling depend on confirming who will perform the work and meeting the applicable registration, bonding, insurance, and permit requirements for CLE and any subcontractor. Required permits must be in place before demolition begins.

What to discuss at your estimate

You do not need an exact measurement or an online calculation to get in touch. Start with the structure, location, and what you want removed.

Structure and access

Describe the structure, approximate size if known, whether it is attached to anything, and access through driveways or gates.

What stays and what goes

Discuss the structure, items inside it, and whether the concrete pad or footings should remain. Concrete work is quoted separately.

Approvals and preparation

Mention known utility connections, existing permit paperwork, and your plans for the space. Clarify required approvals, responsibilities, and fees before scheduling demolition.

Light Demolition Pricing in Northeast Ohio

Ranges reflect what actually drives the work — footprint, height, material, and how hard the site is to reach. They apply to work suitable for hand demolition or light equipment after a site assessment. The scope, performing contractor, and final quote must be confirmed before demolition is scheduled.

All prices are all-in: demolition labor, hauling, disposal, and site cleanup are included in the number you're quoted.

Concrete footings, piers, and slabs are quoted SEPARATELY from the structure above them — they're heavy-debris work with different disposal costs, and we price them after inspection.

CLE or the customer may handle permit arrangements where local rules allow; an eligible subcontractor may need to apply when performing permitted work. Confirm the applicant, required approvals, inspections, and related fees with the municipality before scheduling. Subcontracting does not replace requirements that apply to CLE. A homeowner permit is not a substitute when the city requires a contractor application.

Utilities feeding a structure (pool pumps, deck lighting, garage subpanels) must be disconnected by a licensed electrician or plumber before we demolish.

These optional junk removal planning tools do not provide a demolition quote. Demolition needs an on-site scope assessment, including the structure, access, concrete, and required approvals.

Before a light-demolition project is scheduled

An estimate is the time to identify the boundaries of the project. It is not permission to start demolition before contractor arrangements and required approvals are settled.

Leave uncertain structures undisturbed

Do not begin cutting, disconnecting utilities, or taking down supports to prepare for an estimate. Mention damaged sections, attachments to a house, and suspected hazardous materials so the appropriate assessment can happen first.

Show the features you want to protect

Identify shared fencing, adjacent buildings, paving, landscaping, and anything below or beside an elevated structure. Explain your intended use of the area without assuming retained concrete or posts will suit a future project.

Confirm responsibilities before the work date

Agree on who performs the demolition, required approvals, utility preparation, and any separate trade or permit cost. A qualified subcontractor may be needed; those arrangements must be confirmed before scheduling demolition.

Demolition, debris removal, and what remains

A clear finish description matters as much as a clear list of structures to remove.

Above-ground work and concrete are separate decisions

Deck boards and framing, fence sections, pool structures, or a garage are not the same scope as buried footings or a concrete slab. Agree on each part, including anything left in place, before approving the quote.

Cleanup is not reconstruction

Confirm debris hauling, loose-material cleanup, and sweeping of applicable hard surfaces. Deep cleaning, hazardous-material abatement, soil grading, repairs to adjoining structures, and new construction are not implied by a demolition-and-hauling quote.

What Affects Your Final Quote?

How Light Demolition Works

Four steps from quote to a clear, swept site.

Step 1: Quote on the Real Scope

Call or request a free on-site estimate. Discuss the structure, dimensions, access, footings, and any utility or permit requirements. Confirm who would perform the work and any subcontractor involvement. Project acceptance depends on the agreed scope and required qualifications; approve the quoted work and price before demolition.

Step 2: Tear Down

Accepted work is performed by CLE or an identified subcontractor, by hand or with light equipment, once the required qualifications and permits are in place. Height, structural connections, access, and site conditions determine the agreed scope. Work near a home, fence, or property line needs project-specific planning.

Step 3: Cut Up & Haul

Lumber, decking, railings, fence panels, pool walls, and liners are cut to size, loaded, and hauled as part of the agreed demolition job. Timing depends on the structure and access.

Step 4: Rake & Sweep

We collect loose nails and fasteners, rake the footprint, and sweep hard surfaces. Confirm the agreed finish, any remaining concrete, and next steps for the site.

Structures We Assess for Demolition

We take on structures that can be dismantled by hand or with light equipment, including carports and patio covers. Outdoor structures and attached decking are subject to a project-specific scope and access assessment. Sheds, workshops, outbuildings, and barns are on our shed removal page; standard playset and trampoline removal is priced on our swing set page.

Why Choose CLE Junk Removal for Light Demolition?

Demolition and Haul in One Price

Our quoted demolition scope covers teardown, hauling, disposal, and site cleanup. Concrete footings, piers, and slabs are quoted separately.

Equipped for Awkward Sites

Elevated decks, narrow side yards, gated backyards, and structures against a property line need an access and scope review. Discuss these conditions when requesting your estimate.

Straight About What Drives Price

Size, height, footings, access, and material drive the quote. Footings are priced separately; clarify permit requirements and any related fees before scheduling work.

Insured Demolition Work

CLE carries insurance covering our demolition work. If a subcontractor is proposed, its insurance and scope must also be confirmed. Ask for the performing contractor's insurance documentation for your project.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a permit to demolish a deck or detached garage in Cleveland?

Permit requirements depend on the structure and municipality. CLE or the customer may handle the application where local rules allow; an eligible subcontractor may need to apply for the work it performs. Cleveland publishes demolition-contractor registration and bonding requirements. For contractor-led residential garage demolition in Parma, the city requires the registered contractor to apply for the permit. Subcontracting does not replace requirements that apply to CLE. Confirm the applicant, approvals, contractor qualifications, and related fees before scheduling; required permits must be in place before demolition begins.

How much does deck removal cost in Northeast Ohio?

A small ground-level deck up to 10x10 runs $499–$799 all-in. A standard 12x12 to 12x16 deck is $799–$1,499, and a large deck at 16x20 or bigger, elevated, or multi-level runs $1,499–$2,999. These ranges apply to assessed work suitable for hand demolition or light equipment. Every price includes demolition, hauling, disposal, and sweeping the site. Concrete footings under the deck are quoted separately.

What happens to the concrete footings under my deck or fence?

Footings, piers, and slabs are quoted separately from the structure above them — always. They're heavy-debris work with different equipment and much higher disposal cost per cubic foot, so pricing them into a deck range would be guessing. We inspect them and give you a firm separate number. Whether footings remain is agreed before work; leaving them does not establish that they are suitable for a future structure.

Is my structure light demolition or shed removal?

If it has walls and a roof and stores things — a shed, workshop, outbuilding, or barn — it's priced on our shed removal page. If it's a deck, fence, above-ground pool, gazebo, pergola, or detached garage, it's light demolition and priced here. A detached garage is the one that surprises people: it lives on this page at $1,999–$4,999+, not with the sheds. If you're unsure, call (216) 673-0678 and we'll point you at the right number.

How long does it take to demolish a deck?

As rough planning guides, a small ground-level deck may take a few hours, larger elevated or multi-level decks can take a full day, and a detached garage may take one to two days or longer. These are not promised durations. Construction, access, required preparation, and the approved scope determine the expected schedule, which we discuss with the quote.

What happens to the debris after demolition?

Debris hauling and disposal are included in the quoted demolition scope. Confirm the loading schedule and final cleanup with your estimate. Lumber, decking, railings, fence panels, and pool walls are cut down and loaded, then sorted so metal and clean wood are recycled wherever a facility accepts them.

Do you remove above-ground pools including the liner and decking?

Yes — walls, liner, and surrounding decking included in the assessed scope come out together for $499–$1,299 all-in depending on size and access. Work must be suitable for hand demolition or light equipment. The pool has to be drained before we arrive, and any pump, heater, or lighting needs to be disconnected by a licensed electrician first. Concrete pads under the pool are quoted separately.

Can you take down a playset or swing set?

For a standard backyard playset or trampoline, our swing set removal page has firm per-structure pricing and that's the better route. This page covers demolition-scale playground structures — large multi-tower systems, concrete-anchored structures, or commercial-grade equipment suitable for hand demolition or light equipment after assessment. Concrete footings are quoted separately. Call (216) 673-0678 if you're not sure which yours is.

Will the area be ready for new construction after demolition?

Not automatically. The approved quote should state what is removed, whether concrete or footings remain, and the agreed cleanup. Demolition does not certify the remaining ground or concrete for a replacement structure. Discuss grading, new foundations, repairs, and any requirements for the next project separately with the appropriate contractor.
